Critical phases during takeoff and landing

In 2024, there were eight accidents involving light aircraft in Norway. All of them occurred during takeoff, landing, or approach. An accident report from Germany was also published recently. In that case, the accident was caused by the aircraft exceeding its performance limits during a turn with a large bank angle, resulting in a collision with the ground.

Takeoff and landing are the most risky phases of a flight—especially at small, uncontrolled airfields. The Norwegian guest article and the German accident report show what needs to be taken into account during these critical phases, in addition to good flight preparation.
