As in many other European countries, foreign aircraft in special categories – including ultralight aircraft (ULs – require a special permit to use Swiss airspace in order to enter and fly in Switzerland.
Which 3-axis controlled microlights can apply for a special permit to operate in Swiss airspace?
The new website that went online on October 14, 2024: “Microlights entitled to fly in Switzerland” provides information on this. The continuously updated list includes 3-axis microlights certified to LTF-UL or BCAR-S for which a special permit to use Swiss airspace can be issued.
With a valid special permit from the FOCA, an accepted microlight may be operated in Switzerland for a maximum of two months per calendar year. These three combinations of two-month operating period per calendar year are possible:
- 1 month and 4 full weeks
- 1 month and 30 full days
- 4 full weeks and 30 full days
