Sunny Swift: ADS-L: see and be seen

Statistically, airproxes and mid-air collisions are rare, especially in commercial aviation. But the risk can inevitably strike, as we saw this week in Washington DC. In General Aviation (GA), on the other hand, mid-air collisions are a major risk. In EASA member states, there are an average of six fatal mid-air collisions each year, which tragically result in the loss of 13 human lives every year.

In this respect, the topic of “See and Avoid” is more relevant than ever. The current issue of “Sunny Swift” is also dedicated to this topic. The motto is: “See and be seen.” What does that mean? There are now numerous digital aids to help us improve our situational awareness. You can find out more about ADS-L in the “iConspicuity” section of EASA.

Safety first, every flight, every time.
